Spring Update

(Before ~ Winter)  The color scheme was centered around the rug which was moved to the master bedroom

Spring decorating ideas for the living room
(After ~ Spring) Pillows changed out and some Spring accents added.

While Spring cleaning the other day one thing lead to another, as it usually does, and I started moving a few things around. I wanted to do more of a Spring look in my living room and it occurred to me that I should switch the colors from my bedroom to my living room to achieve this. Well, if you've ever done this before, you know that it's like opening up a can of worms and before I knew it other rooms were getting involved. I needed this picture from that room and that accessory needs to go in here and then be replace with something else and so on until before I knew it  the entire first floor was being rearranged.

.
The main changes in the room included switching out the pillows, removing the rug and bringing in some Spring accents on the tables.I'm not sure if I will add a rug back in or not. I actually like the idea of cool floors in the summer especially here in south central Texas! It's definitely easier with the dogs too. I can just use the swiffer and not have to pull out the vacuum cleaner constantly. What do you think? Rug or no rug?

before ~ leather chair and upholstered ottoman

after ~ upholstered chair with wicker ottoman
One other big change was that I switched out the leather chair for this striped upholstered chair from the bedroom. I never liked the leather chair next to the leather sofa anyway so it all worked out. The wicker ottoman brings in that outdoor feel I was going for too. Important note: if you keep your main furniture pieces neutral, you can completely switch out your look with a few inexpensive things like colorful pillows and you can also move your furniture from room to room as needed.

The pillows are a combination of outdoor Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn and one is an old Indian blanket that I made into a pillow. The combination of blue and yellow is much more Springy to me.
A few touches of Spring were added to the coffee table. The basket was a find at Hobby Lobby ~ 1/2 off clearance this week. I brought some of the outdoors in with the pottery and birds and a touch of blue was added with the candle from Anthropologie (which smells just like Hawaiian punch by the way) and  some books on decorating (of course).

Some fresh flowers REALLY bring the outside in

Now off to the bedroom to hang drapes and pictures and hopefully not to decide that everything needs to go back to the way it was....UGH!
